The structure of this site, drawn from its own internal links. Measured 2026-08-20 across 126 published posts and 18 destination pages, and redrawn the same evening after the fixes below. Thickness is the square root of the number of posts whose body links to that page, so a thick branch is a well fed one and a dashed branch has nothing pointing at it.

What this tree says about us

The method names six defects a sitemap hides. Here is what our own tree shows on 2026-08-20, with the exact pages and counts, and where each one goes.

Inverted tree The residential limb carries 66 leaves, the commercial and multifamily limb 35. That gap narrowed today from 24 against 11, but the higher value work still carries barely half the proof. Open. Strategy: decide what we are selling
Canopy with no branches Counting every link instance on both sides, posts now point at a money page 262 times against 209 times at each other, a ratio of 0.80 to 1, reversed from 1.33 to 1. Read this honestly: most of that swing is the redirect rewrite above making existing links count, not new writing. Only 12 links were genuinely new. Wire the proof to an offer

One more, found while naming the branches. The main menu lists 13 service pages. The services hub lists 8. Five money pages, including wood rot and carpentry, are reachable from the menu but absent from the page that is supposed to list what we do. Where a tree disagrees with the navigation, the tree has found a defect.

What we are doing about it

Ordered by cost to fix, cheapest first. Dated 2026-08-20.

  1. Consolidate the exterior painting split. Done 2026-08-20. Retired, redirected, inbound link rewritten, dropped from the sitemap.
  2. Rewrite the links that point at redirects. Done 2026-08-20. 127 links across 63 posts and pages now reach the destination directly. 0 of 163 targets redirect.
  3. Add the five missing money pages to the services hub so the page matches the menu. Christmas lights, colour consultation, deck and fence, pressure washing, and wood rot are in the navigation on every page but absent from the hub itself. This one is not a link edit: the hub is eight hand-built sections in the theme template, so each addition needs copy, a photograph and a code change. Awaiting sign-off.
  4. Publish one customer story for Christmas light installation, the only bare branch on the tree. Blocked until we have a real job to write up.
  5. Feed the commercial and multifamily limb until its proof matches its price. Started 2026-08-20: 12 links added, limb went from 11 leaves to 35. The next step is proof rather than links, meaning job photographs and named commercial work.

Delta. Drawn and redrawn on 2026-08-20. Between the two runs: total counted links to money pages 156 to 235, targets answering with a redirect 25 to 0, commercial and multifamily limb 11 leaves to 35, split branches 1 to 0, bare branches 1 to 1. Most of that came from repairing plumbing rather than from new writing, which is the honest reading. It will be redrawn monthly and the change between runs is the measurement that matters. Method. Crawl date 2026-08-20. Every published blog post was fetched and the links inside the article body extracted; theme headers, footers and the related-services widget were excluded, because a menu that links everywhere would make every branch look healthy. A post linking to the same page more than once counts once. Branch names come from this site’s own menu and services hub. Total counted links to the pages above: 235, up from 156 this morning. Bare branches: 1.
